Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ cup Swiss Emmentaler cheese, finely shredded
- 3 large mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon dried dill weed
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- Several slices Swiss cheese
- 4 fresh onion buns, split in ½
- Lettuce
- Optional extras: Ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, pickles, etc.
Instructions
1. Prepping the burger
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, Swiss cheese, mushrooms, onion, garlic powder, dill weed, pepper and salt.
- Form the mixture into 4 burgers, about ¾-inch thick.
- Preheat a skillet or grill to medium heat.
2. Cooking the burgers
- Place the burgers on the hot skillet or grill.
- Sear each side for 3 minutes, or until the burgers are nicely seared.
- Once the burgers are seared, reduce the heat to low and cook the burgers for an additional 12-15 minutes while flipping them every few minutes.
- Lay 2 slices of Swiss cheese on each burger during the last 3 minutes of cooking so they melt.
3. Finishing by topping the burgers
- Toast the buns for a few minutes on the skillet or grill.
- Once the buns are done, spread on your favorite condiments – ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, pickles, etc.
- Place a burger on a bottom bun and top with a few pieces of lettuce.
- Cover the burger with the second bun half.
