Titoni Ltd., a Swiss watchmaker founded in 1919 by Fritz Schluep in the Swiss “watch town” of Grenchen, is now owned and operated by the third and fourth generation of its founding family. The company currently employs around 60 people.
In the 1940s, Titoni sold watches in Singapore and Hong Kong under the Titoni brand name, which were popular among Chinese sailors. Bruno Schluep, the founder’s son, established connections with Chinese businessman Koh Mui Yew in 1944.
In 1960, the Chinese State Import Authority placed an order for Titoni watches after Felca invited a delegation from China to Switzerland. The company’s name was subsequently changed to Felca & Titoni Watches Ltd.. Titoni branded watches continued to be sold in Europe, while the Felca brand was primarily used in Asia.
Titoni specializes in manufacturing watches in the mid-price range. During the period of China’s planned economy, the communist regime set a maximum price of CHF 80 for their watches.
Felca watches are renowned for their high quality and reasonable prices, making them a prestigious status symbol, especially in Asia. Despite the watch crisis in the 1970s caused by the emergence of quartz watches, Felca decided to offer a combination of traditional mechanical watches and quartz watches.
Almost all of their timepieces feature meticulously hand-assembled mechanical movements.
