How To Roll Swiss Roll?
Ingredients
- Eggs (3)
- Sugar (100g)
- Flour (75g)
- Baking Powder (2 tsp)
- Milk (3 tbsp)
- Jam or Filling (100g)
Step 1: Preheat the oven
Before you begin, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 15-by-11 inch (38 by 28 cm) Swiss roll tin with a thin layer of baking parchment.
Step 2: Make the sponge
In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until creamy. Sieve in the flour and baking powder and mix together until combined. Add the milk and mix until your Swiss roll mixture is light and fluffy.
Step 3: Transfer the mixture to the prepared tin
Using a spatula, spread your Swiss roll mixture evenly into the tin. Make sure it’s even by tilting the tin and leveling the mixture.
Step 4: Bake the sponge
Pop the tin in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown and springy.
Step 5: Roll it up!
When it comes to rolling a Swiss roll, timing is everything. Take it out of the oven when done and let it cool for no more than a minute on the tray. Be sure to act quickly if you want to avoid the Swiss roll crumbling and falling apart! Now, add some jam, chocolate spread, cream or whatever filling you like onto the Swiss roll sponge. Then peel off the baking parchment from the bottom and, using the parchment to help, roll the sponge up into a tight log.
Step 6: Let it rest
Finally, transfer your Swiss roll to a plate and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before you cut and serve it.
Making a Swiss roll is really not as hard as it looks. If you practice and follow the tips above, you should definitely be able to make a perfectly rolled Swiss roll that your friends and family will love. So, what are you waiting for? Go try it today!
