A Step-by-Step Guide on How To Cut Swiss Chard
Step One: Gather Your Supplies
Before you begin, make sure you have everything you need:
- Sharp knife
- Cutting board
- A Swiss chard (It can be any variety you like, but Swiss chard is the tastiest!)
Step Two: Remove the Stems
Gently hold the stem and leaf together, and slice off the core of the stem with your knife. Be sure not to discard the stem! Place it in a bowl with water–it can be cooked later.
Step Three: Rinse and Dry the Stems and Leaves
Gently rinse the Swiss chard with cool water and pat it dry.
Step Four: Cut the Whole Bunch into Strips
Place the Swiss chard onto the cutting board. One by one, trim off the top outer portion of the leaves with your knife. Turn the stems about a quarter turn each time to make sure all of the leaves have been cut. Voila! Now you have several strips ready to be used.
Step Five: Cut the Strips into Slices
Once you have the strips, cut them into small slices, all the way to the root. It’s okay if the leaves are cut at an angle. Fun fact: This is the way the Swiss used to cut their chard when making cheese!
Now that you have successfully completed this five-step, Swiss-inspired guide on how to cut Swiss chard, you can feel confident enjoying the delicious meals you make with it. So don your Swiss hat and whip up something Swiss-delicious!
