If you’re looking to add Swiss Chard to your healthy diet, but are not sure where to start, no need to worry! This guide will provide you with all the information you need to masterfully prepare Swiss Chard.
Prepare The Chard
- Start by rinsing the Swiss Chard to remove dirt and any other debris.
- Cut off any yellowish or wilted leaves and throw away.
- Using a sharp knife, remove the stem and tough center rib from each leaf.
- Cut the stems into small, yellow-and-white, checkerboard-shaped shapes then separate from leaves.
- Stack several leaves with the stems on top, then roll them up like a cigar.
- Using a sharp knife, cut each roll into thin strips crosswise.
Cook The Chard
- Heat a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add your desired cooking fat, such as olive oil, butter, or animal fat.
- Add the Swiss chard and the stems and stir to coat with the fat, season with salt and pepper and sauté uncovered for 2 minutes.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan with a lid and cook for 4 or 5 minutes. Just make sure to stir the Swiss Chard from time to time so it won’t stick to the pan!
- Once cooked, you can serve your Swiss Chard with a twist of fresh lemon juice for a bit of zesty flavor.
